This is the most vibrant of festivals with roots deep in folklore and tradition. The four-day celebration starts on Thursday 12th June 2025 with pop-up bars, marching bands, fireworks and music in the city centre, culminating in the Battle of the "Lumecon" on the afternoon of Sunday 15th June 2025, when St George does battle with the Dragon in front of the Town Hall on the Grand Place. But not before the Relics of Saint Waldru have descended from the Collegiate Church on the Saturday morning and processed around the town in a Golden Carriage (Car d'Or) on the Sunday morning. The townspeople then all help to push the Golden Carriage up the cobblestone slope back to the Collegiate Church; if the Car d'Or does not climb the slope in one continuous journey, misfortune will befall the city!
This one of a kind celebration has been recognised as a UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity and is most definitely not to be missed. Be warned however, it will be very busy!
