Canal du Centre, Houdeng-Goegnies

If you are looking for a way to spend a relaxing couple of hours in the sunshine, look no further and head down to Houdeng-Goegnies to hire an electric boat.

Wind your way down the Canal du Centre with the sun on your face, the breeze in your hair and the sound of water and wildlife in your ears. From 45 Euros you can hire an electric boat for an hour on the water spotting the wildlife and enjoying the peace of the canal.

Whilst the captain of the boat must be over 16, passengers aged 4 and upwards are allowed to travel on board. After a quick brief on mastering the electric boat you will be free to wend your way down the canal to the church at Houdeng-Aimeries. Pack a picnic, take a camera and enjoy a relaxing hour on the water.

After disembarking there is a lovely, family friendly Italian Restaurant ‘La Cantine des Italiens’ with a fabulous outdoor seating area serving drinks, and food if you time it right; the kitchen is open until 12-2pm and reopens 6-930pm. It is closed on Mondays.

There is also the chance to Cruise on the Historic Canal du Centre between April & November and visit the 73 metre high Funicular Boat Lift of Strepy-Thieu. Boat crossings of the Funicular Lift are bookable one Sunday per month. Booking necessary. More details here
