Forces Pension Society

One of our guiding principles at the Forces Pension Society is that we strive to mirror the selfless commitment you sign up to when you join the Armed Forces. We do that by working ceaselessly on behalf of the military community, holding governments to account whenever we see unfairness or injustices in the Armed Forces Pension Schemes. And, of course, we provide invaluable guidance to our Members through the acknowledged expertise of our Pension Advisory Team. We also give you a voice where it matters as Members of Public Sector Pension representative bodies and the MoD Pension Board.

One current and highly important issue is the taxation levied on pension savings, known as the ‘Pension Tax’. Previously this only affected the most senior ranks, however this inherently unfair tax is now affecting an increasing number of middle ranking and long serving servicemen and women. That is why we are campaigning vigorously for urgent changes to the regulations and why you need to be aware of its potential impact upon your long term financial planning.

There are also many other influences affecting the pension you’ll receive when you leave. For example, just knowing when to leave (and when not to) can make a significant difference to your pension. There are numerous variables; which scheme (or schemes) you are on, choices about commutation, aggregation of pensions, reserve service, medical awards and much more, which is why growing numbers of people are joining the Society for the peace of mind of knowing we will help them make the best pension choices for themselves and their families.
