The Discover My Benefits tool is the definitive online resource to understand the wide range of benefits and allowances Service personnel and their families are entitled to and how to take them.
The tool supports a lot of the People Transformation activity going on across Defence by highlighting how particular changes will impact Service personnel in a simple and impartial way.
What is it? Discover My Benefits is an online tool that shows the extensive range of benefits, allowances and support that Service personnel are entitled to because of the unique demands of military life and operations. It can be used by all Regular and Reserve Service personnel and their families. It's just one of a series of new initiatives the MOD is implementing to promote the Armed Forces as a flexible, modern, family-friendly career choice. The tool is constantly updated with new benefits and changes to existing ones, including those that have come from the modernising Defence and transformation programmes like the Future Accommodation Model and Flexible Service.
How can it help?
Service personnel can visit Discover My Benefits to find out about what they're entitled to in every area of Service life, including pay and pensions, accommodation, flexible working, professional development, health and wellbeing services, relocation and leave. During the Covid-19 crisis, the tool is providing a useful feature by signposting Service personnel to the updated guidance that has been published on certain allowances. This includes allowances such as Continuity of Education, Food and Incidental, Longer Separation, Get You Home Overseas and Special Messing.
What’s next?
The launch of Discover My Benefits last year was only the beginning! We have seen over 120,000 hits since then and would like to see this number continue to rise.
The tool has been built with input from potential users and is being continually improved based on user feedback. A new feedback tool has been introduced that allows users to provide feedback on every page. The team have been working hard on an update to the Change of Circumstances tool that makes it easier for people to identify the changes that have impacted their benefits package. The tool will also be evolving to include Civil Servant benefits.
