Summer Fun at the Library!

Childrens Day at the Dou Dou, Sunday 2 June from 9am

The children, too, have their Dragon fight on the Grand'Place de Mons this Sunday, June 2

Le Petit Lumeçon - Sunday, 2 June 2024

The Petit Lumeçon allows a total of 3,500 children participating in the rope, distributed in the different areas of color on the Grand Place.

The priority of priorities naturally remains the safety of children. In order to experience a Little Lumeçon in the best conditions, please follow scrupulously the 5 steps explained below:

1. Measure between 1m and 1m 60

Children must wear a T-shirt (not paying) of a specific colour depending on the height of the child (between 1m00 and 1m60). The child must be able to stand alone. No booking is possible.

2. Place du Parc from 9 a.m.

T-shirts must be removed from the distribution counters at the Place du Parc and accessible from 9 a.m., exclusively via the streets of Nimy and then Marcottes.

Attention: the presence of the child is essential at this stage, given the need to measure it. And there is no need to present if the child is less than 1m or more than 1m 60 (it will be removed from the device).

The height of the child is measured by the organization.

A coloured T-shirt is then handed over to him, with a name label and numbered for his identification (also with the Belgian GSM number of the parent; no fixed telephone number). This color is also that of its zone on the rope.

The parent then receives a strain of the colour of the T-shirt, taking the child’s identification number (to be memorized – the colour and number – for safety). To be kept absolutely.

After obtaining his T-shirt, the child, under the responsibility of the parent, is invited to join the Grand Place following the route "Rue des 4 Fils Aymon – Rue de Nimy – Grand-Place".

Attention: it is in the queue, in a specific place, that the parent receives, per child, a “prestain” on which is indicated in particular the colour of the T-shirt required.

If there is no longer a “pre-stain” in a colour, this means that all the T-shirts of this colour have been distributed. At that point, all expectations become useless. No more children are then admitted (sending to the Police to get out of the scheme).

3. On the rope from 12 noon

Access is via a window specific to each colour area. A neutral zone creates a separation between parents and children. Adults who are not part of the organisation are not allowed to enter and must remain behind this “traffic ring”.

In the areas, the wearing of the coloured T-shirt is mandatory. The Petit Combat runs from 12.30 pm to 1 p.m.

4. The HQ in the Salle Saint-Georges

A headquarters is set up in the Salle Saint-Georges next to the town hall. This is where parents are invited to come and pick up the children evacuated during the Little Fight.

This headquarters is in constant communication with the medical clinic located in the Sacquiaux room of the town hall.

Parents are invited to consult their GSM regularly (a sms prompts them to search for their child(s) at the HQ).

5. At the end of the Little Fight (1 pm)

The exit of the areas after the Little Combat is via the counters, child by child. Parents, do not forget the identification strain (except for black T-shirts, the only area for which access is free). All the children still present are obliged to return to their area and leave via the counter.

Advice and prohibitions

  • Small water bottles are distributed to children in the areas. But in case of high heat, plan for refreshments, caps and sunscreen.
  • For safety reasons, it is strongly recommended to wear good (closed) shoes, long-hairdor hair, avoid earrings, necklaces (or any other accessories tied around the neck), piercings, etc.
  • It is prohibited to install and mount on a stepladder or ladder to attend the Little Combat.
  • Smoking is prohibited in the vicinity of children, particularly in the waiting corridors for the distribution of T-shirts, at the ticket counters at the rope areas, in the headquarters, etc.

Important; Children remain under the full supervision and responsibility of their parents or any other person who is responsible for them.

The City of Mons declines all responsibility in the event of an accident.

Eurostar looks to quell fears of lengthy delays under post-Brexit rules

Source The Brussels Times

Eurostar has spent €10 million on ensuring that major delays are prevented once the Entry/Exit System (EES) is finally introduced on 6 October. "It won’t be a shitshow," said chief stations and security officer Simon Lejeune.

The EES is an automated IT system for registering travellers from third countries who travel to the EU. UK nationals have been considered third country citizens since 1 February 2020, and following multiple delays, EES checkpoints will be in operation at the St Pancras Eurostar terminal from 6 October.

There have been widespread fears about potential delays caused by the new, more complicated system. On Tuesday, Eurostar announced that it has spent €10 million on measures to make the process as smooth as possible and it insists that delays will only occur if passengers themselves are not well-informed about new requirements.

To that end, customers will be sent guides about how to navigate the changes as soon as they book a Eurostar journey.

Together with High Speed One (HS1), owner and operator of the line between London and the Channel tunnel, Eurostar will install almost 50 EES kiosks (including 24 provided by the French government), increase the number of e-gates from eight to 11 and increase the number of manual booths from nine to 18.

It will also up the number of border control staff from 12 to 24. At the Brussels-Midi station terminal in Brussels, there will be an additional ten new e-gates and four additional in-person counters installed. Paris will gain 18 EES kiosks and seven e-gates.

How will it work?

Under the EES, short-stay visa holders and visa-exempt travellers are required to submit fingerprint and facial biometric data upon entry into the Schengen Zone. Refusals of entry will now be recorded. There are several additional steps Eurostar passengers will have to take before departure from St Pancras.

Passengers must first go to EES kiosks, which will be installed at three separate points in St Pancras station: where Benugo coffee shop is currently located (the café will close to make room for the kiosks), opposite Network Railway's main ticket office and at the escalators leading to Thameslink's platforms.

Here they will scan their passport, provide fingerprints and have their facial photo taken. They will then answer a series of questions relating to their trip such as where they plan to stay and how long they will spend in the EU.

From the kiosks, passengers will move to the departure area, then to the security barrier where luggage will be scanned. They will then pass through the UK border (the same as always). At this point, first-time passengers will have to provide a second set of fingerprints. Only then can the Eurostar be boarded. No further checks will occur at the other side of the journey.

'We have got the right set-up'

Eurostar says it is determined to ensure passengers that the new system will not cause heavy delays. A Coop Group survey published in April revealed that almost two in three UK adults were not aware of any changes under the EES, while one in five said they would be put off travelling due to the new system.

The operator insists that waiting times will remain as they are now: customers are advised to show up at the station between 45 and 60 minutes before their departure time (and 90 minutes beforehand at peak travel times).

"We are confident it won’t be a shit-show, because we have got the right set-up," Eurostar's chief stations and security officer Simon Lejeune told reporters this week. "We are not going to ask our customers to arrive earlier. We are confident, and our modelling supports this [and] we are still going to be operating within the current check-in times [...] and we are looking at reducing them."
